−70 dB optical carrier suppression by two-beam coupling in photorefractive media
Suppression of an optical carrier from an RF modulated laser beam of wavelength 532 nm is performed using two-beam coupling in photorefractive barium titanate. A theoretical analysis reveals that perfect suppression can be achieved at a specific modulation strength, which depends on the gain and intensity ratio between the two beams. The experiments achieve a maximum of −72.9±2.4 dB carrier sup...
متن کاملDevelopments in Photorefractive Two-beam Coupling Systems
Date_______________________ The final copy of this thesis has been examined by the signatories, and we find that both the content and the form meet acceptable presentation standards fo scholarly work in the above mentioned discipline. Photorefractive systems hold the promise for improving the performance of photonic signal processing applications. This thesis describes several developments pert...
متن کاملDiffusion-trapped Airy beams in photorefractive media.
We report the first experimental observation of self-trapped Airy beams in a nonlinear medium. As opposed to screening or photovoltaic spatial solitons, this new class of self-localized beams owes its existence to carrier diffusion effects. The asymmetric action of two-wave mixing supports the asymmetric intensity profile of the Airy states, with a balance that is independent of the beam intens...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional modulational instability in photorefractive media
We study theoretically and experimentally the modulational instability of broad optical beams in photorefractive nonlinear media. The angular dependence of the growth rate of periodic perturbations is calculated. Our findings are confirmed by experimental measurements on a strontium barium niobate photorefractive crystal.
متن کاملSpatial solitons in centrosymmetric photorefractive media.
We predict spatial solitons in photorefractive centrosymmetric media driven by the dc Kerr effect.
